Cold Wave & Naturia Bamboochute

Despite having rather similar effects, both Cold Wave and Naturia Bamboochute are actually quite different. The following is just a short post to highlight the difference between Cold Wave and Naturia Bamboochute.

Due to the poor choice of wordings used in the English text, the Japanese text are used instead for clarity.

《大寒波(だいかんぱ)/Cold Wave》

Although both cards have the clause 発動 (activate) which prevents the playing of a Spell/Trap card from the hand or the playing of a set Spell/Trap card from the field, Cold Wave has an additional clause 使用 (use) which prevents both players from activating the effect of Continuous Spell/Trap card or activating the triggered effect of Spell/Trap card (i.e. Geartown, Wild Tornado).

That is to say that Naturia Bamboochute’s effect is unable to stop cards like Black Whirlwind and Royal Oppression when they are already in play. Effects similar to Naturia Bamboochute includes Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon and Ancient Gear Golem, and they follow the same ruling as Naturia Bamboochute.
