Singapore Metagame: September 2010 – March 2011

Another rotation has passed, and here’s a look at Singapore Duelists’ weapon of choice for the duration of September 2010 to March 2011.

As the Asian Championship 2011 Singapore Qualifiers (held on the 13th March 2011) utilizes the September ban/restriction list, this ban/restriction list enjoys an additional 2 weeks of game play.

Total 495
1st Six Samurai 146
2nd Blackwing 134
3rd Debris Dandy 43
4th Lightsworn 30
5th Hero Beat 28
6th Quickdraw Dandywarrior 24
7th Machina Gadget 20
8th Agent Fairy 12
9th X-Saber 10
10th Frog Monarch 8
Others 40

Taking the metagame by storm is Six Samurai. Despite having a late start in November, Six Samurai quickly overtook Blackwing to be Singapore Duelists’ choice of deck for this ban/restriction list. Able to perform a soft-lock with Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En and Solemn Warning, and at the same time, generate card advantage from Gateway of the Six, Six Samurai is the deck to beat.
Having Gateway of the Six restricted to one definitely limits the Six Samurai’s strategies, but Shi En is still a beast.

In close 2nd is Singapore’s previous favourite – Blackwing. Having both Black Whirlwind and Royal Oppression restricted to one made Blackwing less consistent, even with three Pot of Duality. However, the three copies of Icarus Attack gave Blackwing a fighting chance against Six Samurai.
With Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow restricted to one, Blackwing will be forced to look for substitutes in the form of Spirit Reaper and possibly Genex Ally Crusher if they were to continue with Black Whirlwind. Otherwise Vayu Blackwing is a strong alternative.

Another new member in this metagame, Debris Dandy manages to clinch a decent 3rd. With easy access to Black Rose Dragon, Scrap Dragon and Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, it can adapt and react to any of opponent’s play with ease.
Dandylion restricted to one and Debris Dragon restricted to two will weaken the deck, but a new variant in the form of Junk Doppel might be its successor.

Lightsworn has taken a slight drop, but still manages to retain its presence in the 4th. Splashing of Debris Dragon and some plant cards gave the deck a few extra tricks.
Indirectly affected by the restriction list in the form of Cold Wave and Honest, but gained another Card Trooper.

Hero Beat remains at 5th. It had a good run against Blackwing until the Six Samurai appeared. Struggles to take down Shi En.
Despite having Honest restricted to one, Hero Beat’s only weakness is now Giant Trunade, as Cold Wave joins Heavy Storm in the list of banned cards.

Similar to the previous, here’s the compiled excel file.
