Singapore Metagame: September 2010 – March 2011

Another rotation has passed, and here’s a look at Singapore Duelists’ weapon of choice for the duration of September 2010 to March 2011.

As the Asian Championship 2011 Singapore Qualifiers (held on the 13th March 2011) utilizes the September ban/restriction list, this ban/restriction list enjoys an additional 2 weeks of game play.

Fighting the Metagame: Six Samurai

Undoubtedly, Six Samurai has single-handedly defined the metagame for the ban/restriction list of September 2010 – March 2011. Having dominated the OCG metagame upon the release of Storm of Ragnarok, the Six Samurai will make their debut in the TCG metagame with Championship Series Dallas this weekend.

Six Samurai’s biggest strength lies with Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. With the ability to soft-lock opponent’s Spells and Traps, duels are often won with the opponent being unable to take out Shi En. Fighting the Metagame: Blackwing

With numerous success including winning the World Championship 2009, Blackwing is the deck to beat this metagame. Largely unaffected by the Restriction List for the Asian format, Blackwing has an advantage with the lack of Starlight Road.

Blackwing’s biggest strength lies in Black Whirlwind; allowing a consistent flow of monsters. Having access to an arsenal of Synchro monsters makes it very versatile; able to response to almost every situation.

Fighting the Metagame: Infernity

With slight less than a month to the Singapore’s Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Qualifier 2010, Duelist Codex will be starting on a new series of posts: Fighting the Metagame; a new column focused on the various powerhouse decks in the current metagame. Do note that Singapore will be utilizing the following Restriction List released by Konami Asia, hence only cards available will be covered in the discussion.

The release of The Shinning Darkness introduced additional cards to the Infernity theme, turning it into a top-tier deck. By utilizing Infernity Archfiend’s effect to fetch Infernity Launcher, Infernity is able swarm the field with Synchro Monsters, creating a possibility to end the duel at that moment.
